America's Next Top Model (often abbreviated as ANTM) is a reality television show in which a number of women compete for the title of America's Next Top Model and a chance to start their career in the modeling industry. The show was created and is hosted by talk-show host and model Tyra Banks, who also serves as the head judge and executive producer of the show.
Their expertise as guest judges during this high fashion cycle are international fashion designer Lana Marks, model/stylist Erin Wasson, stylist Rachel Zoe, Sudanese model and actress Alek Wek, stylist/creative consultant Lori Goldstein, Italian photographer Francesco Carrozzini, fashion model Sonia Dara, IMG Models executive Ivan Bart, Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, Brazilian designer Daniella Issa Helayel, and costume designer/stylist Eric Daman ("Gossip Girl"). 14 model hopefuls will compete for the ultimate career-launching prize package: a contract with IMG Models, one of the top international modeling management companies in the world; a fashion spread in Vogue Italia and an additional spread and cover of Beauty in Vogue; and a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics.
There's also to be a scene that promises the models will be "falling on their faces" during a shoot that features some pretty huge rubber balls! Here's the official synopsis for the episode. GUEST JUDGE ALEK WEK AND A PHOTO SHOOT WITH LIVE BEES - After Tyra's nutritionist, Heather Bauer, tests the models' knowledge of healthy foods and gives them tips on "cheaties" they can use to improve their diet, two of the girls get into a verbal smackdown over a piece of chicken. With the help of acting coach Eugene Buica, Nigel challenges the girls to perform for the camera by getting in touch with their "inner critic." Photographer Mike Rosenthal and Jay Manuel take the models through a dramatic photo shoot with live bees, and one of the girls faces a personal crisis.
All photos of Ty-Ty in the house are of Tyra at age 16 (because it's Cycle 16, duh), including, but not limited to, the Tyra Mail graphic. As you can see, America's Next Top Model has yet to master the art of self-referential comedy (although Tyra's promo vid takes a decent crack at it). Sarah, "the bisexual polyamorous one," has a rat-tail. Huh. We wonder if that makes the cut during makeovers. Jaclyn, while she appears to be "the ditzy one," asking whether the bees they have to pose with at one point are "trained," is actually pretty adorable...and not a mind-numbing idiot. (Also, she looks a lot like Minnie Driver, no?) America's Next Top Model, the most successful reality modeling competition, is back for another season starting February 23, 2011, with 14 brand new hopeful contestants from across the United States.
