Since man started running, biking, hiking, or propelling himself by foot, few things have been as important to the human animal as their shoes. From the sandals of the Roman gladiators, to the most technically advanced shoes and boots available today, shoes have long been the foundation to human movement. However, with few notable exceptions, the basic way shoes are designed to be worn hasn't changed in thousands of years. Put your foot in the shoe, and if it isn't held in place by the design of the shoe, it has to be tightened by belts, buckles, Velcro, or laces, all too often, creating either insecure footing or painful pressure points. Not at all desirable for any shoes - but especially for athletic shoes.

Levels of competition have gotten harder and the talent more equal. This means finding additional ways to improve performance have become paramount. For bicyclists, this means finding ways to be more aerodynamic. For ball players, it means finding ways to become stronger, yet be lighter. For running and other endurance sports, it has meant finding ways to be faster, yet maintain that level of endurance so you can be there at the end. Between all these sports, every method of diet, hardware and gear changes, and whatever else has been tried. And part of that formula includes shoes.

Football, baseball, tennis and soccer, as well as any other sport played on grass and dirt, means having running or athletic shoes that work with the playing field. Giving you the ability to change directions quickly, yet still remain light and easy to wear, but having that flexibility to change directions often means your shoe needs attention. That's where some of the new innovations in lacing technology come into play.

Running and other endurance sports require a shoe that will constantly give great grip. Finding a shoe that will remain comfortable regardless of the surface is important for success. And for those that run triathlons and pursue other extreme sports, they need shoes that will not only give grip and provide comfort, but stand up to the elements and extreme conditions where water and dirt can be major factors. The new lacing technology comes into play here as well.

New lacing technologies have come along to replace all the old belts and traditional laces. This technology incorporates space-age materials as well as a new ‘think' on how laces should work. Not only should the shoe be ultimately comfortable with even pressure all over the foot. Any part of the shoe should be easy to clean and adjust, and ultimately, the shoe should never need adjustment once it is properly tightened. And with the new lacing technologies out there, this is finally possible.
