Teaching English to speakers of other languages is not only a challenge it can also be very rewarding. You, as the teacher, are able to help other people grasp and understand another language which may open up many new and different avenues for them. There are many reasons why people study English but what are the reasons to study a TESOL course, well there are many advantages.
For starters Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages or TESOL for short, will give you the freedom to travel and earn at the same time. There are many different ways in which to study a TESOL course. Many TESOL courses offer to train you whilst you are already abroad, others offer different online TESOL courses depending on how much time you have, how much you can afford and how qualified you wish to be. Many TESOL placements are normally for a minimum of a year, therefore allowing you the freedom of changing your location or your mind on whether teaching English to speakers of other languages is right for you.
As well as teaching abroad, a TESOL course can also be used across the United Kingdom, so if you're bored of that mundane office routine a TESOL course may open up new and exciting opportunities. Studying a TESOL course gives you the freedom to explore new things. You don't even have to have had any previous interest or experience in teaching to be able to take part on the course.
The English language is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
You as a teacher would never be short of teaching opportunities, allowing you to make a full time career out of being a qualified TESOL teacher. There is an ever increasing demand and interest in being able to speak and write English, especially as there is an ever increasing number of people where English is not there first language but they are migrating to English speaking counties.
If you are just starting out and wondering which career path to head down, don't feel pressured to make a fast decision.
With jobs being hard to come by, learning new key skills to get you ahead of the game is coveted by many if not all employers. If you are looking into a year out but worrying about how to explain it to your future employers teaching English to speakers of other languages may not only tick many of your options to have a fun filled year but it may also tick many of your potential employers boxes when comparing you to other potential candidates.
