Hendersonville, NC has long been a popular destination for tourism and retirees, alike. The beautiful landscape and friendly people make for a fun and relaxing stay. Over the years, there has been a strong culinary scene, a scene exploding with youth and vibrancy. Some of the best NC restaurants can be found in Hendersonville, along Main Street or on a nearby back street. Chef Alex Baxevanis, of Fisherman's Quarters Seafood Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill, is thrilled to be the newest on the block. "The bar has been set very high by our competitors; we'll have to work hard to be the best."

Fisherman's Quarters Seafood Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill

One of the newest restaurants in Hendersonville is Fisherman's Quarters Seafood Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill. Operated by Baxevanis, it is Hendersonville's premier seafood restaurant. For some, the name may be familiar. The original Fisherman's Quarters is located in Asheville, NC. Many of the recipes are tried and true and fare from the original. Along with the familiar, you will also find many new items. The menu includes dishes from all over the Mediterranean from Portugal all the way around to Morocco. Everything is made fresh daily and in house. Chef Baxevanis teamed up with his father, George, to create a truly unique family dining experience for the Hendersonville and Flat Rock communities.

Chef Baxevanis and his "Papa" wanted the Fisherman's Quarters Seafood Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill to be more than "just seafood." Chef Baxevanis say that there is nothing more fun than "Cooking with my Papa." They joined forces and have brought some of their family recipes to share with their patrons. Some of the Greek and Mediterranean fare you will find include: hummus, spanikopita and bruschetta, and that's just on the appetizer menu. Entrees include the usual fried and broiled seafood you've come to expect from the Fisherman's Quarters II, but also ratatouille, moussaka and charmoula. Fisherman's Quarters Seafood Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill also features an extensive raw bar with clams, oysters and mussels.

Fisherman's Quarters Seafood Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill is a family-friendly place. Children of all ages, and their parents, are welcome anytime. An extensive children's menu is available. Featured items include: flounder, fried whitefish, popcorn shrimp and chicken fingers.

Fisherman's Quarters Seafood Restaurant and Mediterranean Grill is located in Hendersonville's Wal-Mart Plaza shopping center at 59 Highland Square Drive. They are open 6 days a week from 11:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and till 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Hendersonville's Main Street

Hendersonville's Main Street is also a great spot to find some of the best restaurants in North Carolina. One choice is the Flight Wood Grill. It's located in a bank that was built in 1920. The Flight Wood boasts wood-fired ovens and an extensive wine list. On the menu you will find an assortment of grilled seafood and steaks along with some of the chef's special creations. Tasting menus, wine flights and food/wine pairings are all also available.

Another Main Street staple is Hannah Flannigans - an original Irish Pub. The original Hannah Flannigans was opened in 1993 in one of Hendersonville's oldest buildings. It has since expanded into some space next door. Hannah's offers some of the best "pub fare" there is. Beer battered fish, Irish stew and Bangers and Mash are offered right next to chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and burgers. It's open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

Off the Beaten Track

Kelsey's has been a fixture on the Hendersonville restaurant scene since 1985. Featuring "Fine Casual" fare in a relaxed atmosphere, Kelsey's is also sure to please. Kelsey's features hand cut steaks, ribs, chicken pizza and sandwiches. It's open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
