Divan beds are the type of bed frame which have extra storage space underneath. By this, I mean built in storage, such as drawers. This is not always the case with divan beds though, as this is the basic umbrella term given to all bed frames which are like a platform bed. This means that instead of legs, there is a solid firm base which your mattress will sit on. This is necessary for some types of mattress, such as waterbeds.

It is always valuable, when buying a mattress, to check whether a divan bed is required, in order to stop a mattress sagging between the slats of a normal bed frame. Divan beds are a useful type to have, especially if there is built in drawers included, as they just give you that extra storage option instead of having to use wardrobes and chests of drawers etc. These can be used for anything you wish to keep in them, and are a great solution for smaller rooms where space may otherwise be lacking. A divan style bed can also have an extra mattress underneath at times, which is great for if guests come to stay.

If a child has this type of bed, then it is really useful so they can have a friend stay over for proper sleepovers. They may not always have mattresses that are that good a quality, but that depends on the amount that you pay, and they are certainly better than the floor anyway, so it is a good idea just so there is that option. There are four possible types of divan bases that you can get. These are sprung edge, solid platform tops, firm edge, or slatted base. Each of these varieties has the typical solid divan base, but they basically have different top bit that the mattress sits on.

A solid or platform topped one is the cheapest, and will be more firm than other types of top, these are generally cheaper than the other types of divan bed and are not really seen as quite as comfortable. This may be the type that is needed if you have a water bed or something unable to sit on slats.
