To accessorize or not to accessorize, that is the question.

It is hard to figure out when enough is enough. So many women pile on the extras that the whole look ends up one big hot mess! Here are some guidelines for when to accessorize with your dress.

1.Strapless. You might automatically think-necklace! But nay, refrain from the necklace, the whole point is to show off those sexy shoulders, neck, and collarbone, don’t distract from that with a necklace. Keep it bare and go for some killer drop earrings or hoops, great bracelets, amazing shoes, and a stunning clutch. Check out the necks of celebrities wearing strapless next time you are perusing through a magazine and take note, most of them will not be wearing necklaces. An exception would be maybe a choker style necklace. I believe Jessica Alba wore one with a strapless gown and it was beautiful.
2.Glitzy Dress. You’ve got the bling in the dress. Should you add anymore? This is how I would go about it. Add one or two fab cocktail rings, a glammed out clutch, sparkly shoes, understated earrings and hair, and then something to ground it all like a non-shiny belt.
3.Dress with a high neck. Well obviously no necklace, and since the neck comes up high, go subtle on the earrings. Do something amazing in the hair, like a broach or headband. Have the shoes be the a focus point, and definitely rock some bracelets.
4.Low cut or plunging neckline dress. Generally for this your cleavage will do the talking. But depending on the dress I think it is lovely to don either a delicate little thing high on the neck, let’s say about an 18 inch chain, or a low medallion type necklace nestled below. Or you can rock both like Vanessa Hudgens did in her orange BCBG dress at the MTV Movie Awards.
5.Patterned Dress. You already have so much going on, so be weary. Keep it to simple accessories. Solid shoes, clutch, and maybe belt if it suits the dress. Jewelry that is low-key would work best.
6.Solid simple dress. Live it up! Make your accessories the focus point!
