Water coolers have gone from being the latest gadget bought by many professionals for their own personal office to a basic amenity in the office workspace. With the weather warming up, many offices might be considering getting a water cooler, purely to keep the workforce hydrated and maintain high levels of productivity. Surprisingly the benefits of installing a water cooler stretch much further than that.
Here are ten benefits for installing a water cooler in the office:
1. Water from a water cooler differs than that from a tap: This benefit is pretty much self-explanatory. Water from a tap has to go through a large amount of chemical processing to remove impurities such as lime scale, lead and copper which can be harmful if consumed, and in some cases the evidence of this process is there for all to taste. Water from a water cooler is purer and is therefore more appetising as a result.
2. Water coolers no longer look so clunky: Many water dispenser providers have refined the traditional design, which led it to stand out like a sore thumb in the office space. Instead the water dispenser cuts a much sleeker appearance. So if you're operating a high end office and are worried about installing an uncompromising looking cooler, you need not worry as water coolers are now stylish.
3. Water consumption results in lower likelihood of illness: Every office will suffer from employees falling ill - it's a well known fact. But studies have shown that someone with a greater level of water consumption is less likely to fall ill than someone who doesn't. It is thought around eight glasses a day could prevent urinary tract disease and even the development of arthritis in later life. A water cooler may help to prevent this.
4. Water hydrates - hydration = more functional workforce: A lower level of hydration has been proven to show that the body will become less functional. It can fall as low as five per cent and can result in a fall of around 20 per cent in physical and mental performance. During those long summer afternoons, a water dispenser could provide the perfect antidote to a dip in office efficiency and functionality.
5. Water is good for pregnant women: Many pregnant women will be working in the hot office environment during the summer. It is crucially important for them to remain hydrated. Dehydration can result in contractions and premature labour, which is incredibly dangerous. A water dispenser providing fresh water could help to prevent this.
6. Water coolers are easy to replace: A water dispenser running off bottled water could easily be replaced if it broke down. A tap however could result in the need for major plumbing maintenance, which let's face it in a busy working environment is just an unneeded nuisance.
7. Water coolers are environmentally friendly: Many providers of water dispensers have become more environmentally friendly over time. This means they no longer use fertilisers or pesticides on the land from which the water is sourced from - which can only be a beneficial thing.
8. A water cooler could encourage staff to rid themselves of soft drinks: Water is undoubtedly a lot better than the choice of beverage for many in the workplace, the soft drink. The soft drink is full of sugar and while providing a short burst of energy, it just doesn't have the long term benefits of water (which also holds the upper hand on being a much healthier option).
9. Ensure your workforce is healthy for the long term: It has been proven that those who drink eight or more glasses of water a day are less likely to suffer from a heart attack of heart disease. Is there a much better reason for not installing a water cooler? We don't think so.
10. Water regulates the body temperature: Installing a water cooler for those long, hot summer months could help make your workforce more comfortable as water regulates the body's cooling system. A comfortable workforce is much more productive than an uncomfortable one.
