SEO also called Search Engine Optimization is a process used for improving website SERP (Search Engine Results Page) ranking.

SEO is made of 2 parts: onpage and offpage SEO. On-page SEO is a technique that guarantees that your web site is as search engine friendly as possible. If your website is not optimised your ranking won't be as good as it could be. Off-page SEO on the other hand is more greyhat and is mostly achieved by building backlinks. That can be achieved by: article submission, blog commenting, social media, directory submission, etc.

There are various factors that contribute to website's Search Engine Results Page ranking (Google for one considers more than two hundred elements). Here we'll discuss few positive and few - factors.

First let's list some + factors that you should work on:

- External Link Popularity (quantity/quality of external links - the more and better quality (quality is considered as many factors, one of them could be site's PR) links, the better)
- Diversity of Link Sources (links from many different root domains)
- Keyword Use in the Root Domain Name (keyword should be used in the domain name e.g.: keyword.com or new-keyword.com)
- Keyword Use Anywhere in the H1 Headline Tag (H1 is the most important and visible H tag therefore it carries the biggest weight, meaning keyword should be used in H1 tag)
- Keyword Use in the Page Name URL (keyword needs to be used in subdomain name e.g.: yourdomain.com/folder/keyword.html)

Now let's list some negative factors that you should avoid:

- Link Acquisition from Known Link Brokers/Sellers (search engines are in possesion of big lists of websites that are considered as link sellers and you should avoid buying links at the first place)
- Links from the Page to Web Spam Sites/Pages (creating links to known/blacklisted website will only do you harm)
- Frequent Server Downtime & Site Inaccessibility (this is a no brainer - web site needs to be accessible 24/7 no matter what; just get a reliable web hosting!)
- Excessive Repetition of the Same Anchor Text in a High Percentage/Quantity of External Links to the Site/Page (you shoudn't always use the same anchor text, because same anchor from a lot of sites is unnatural and can look spammy)
- Hiding Text with CSS display:none; (it's possible to hide link by setting visibility to hidden but search engines will detect that!)

The most important factor is website's uptime. You can accomplish that with buying reliable web hosting that most of the time isn't the cheapest, but don't save money here, because if you're not online, you don't exist! I've had really good experience with Hostgator which is known as one of the best web hosting companies. Hostgator's plans are fantastic, prices one of the lowest and support fantastic.
